SecMOD: An Open-Source Modular Framework Combining Multi-Sector System Optimization and Life-Cycle Assessment

Optimization models can support decision-makers in the synthesis and operation of multi-sector energy systems. To identify optimal design a low-carbon system, we need to consider high temporal spatial variability electricity supply, sector coupling, environmental impacts over whole life cycle. Incorporating such aspects optimization is demanding. avoid redundant research efforts enhance transparency, developed used data sets should be shared openly. In this work, present SecMOD framework for system incorporating life-cycle assessment (LCA). The allows optimizing multiple sectors jointly, ranging from industrial production their linked supply systems sector-coupled national incorporates LCA account impacts. We hence provide first open-source consistently include holistic perspective by full integration LCA. apply case-study German system. Starting with few base technologies, demonstrate modular capabilities stepwise addition existing infrastructure. Our aims accelerate sustainable combining assessment.
